YOUR HEADSHOT SESSION
In the creative fields there’s a saying - “Don’t show the work you’ve done, show the work you want.” My intent is to create headshots that show you having achieved the career goal you’ve set for yourself. If you’re a small business owner or CEO of a startup we want to show you as a successful entrepreneur, if you’re looking for a new position or promotion we need show you in character, authentically. This takes time.
I shoot two sessions per day, morning and afternoon. This is to give us the time we need to create spectacular headshots that promotes your personal brand, showing you as the approachable, confident and successful person that people want to be around.
I understand that your busy and if you don’t have four hours to invest in your headshots we can keep things short and quick for you.
The first part of our session is the preparatory phone call. We’ll talk about when to come in, and I’ll offer suggestions about clothes, hair and makeup.
I have a talented makeup artist I work with who has been an makeup artist for many years and knows what needs to be done to make you look best on camera, which is different from what you might wear on any other day. I always encourage women to use her services, but if you want to use your own makeup artist, or do your own that’s fine.
I also have an experienced stylist who can help us select the best outfits to use for your shoot. She’s got years of experience and has helped many C-suite executives look like they belong there.
I encourage my clients, men as well as women to bring seven, or ten outfits. We work together to select the three, to five that are best for the messages we’re sending.
During your headshot session I will actively coach you on expression, posture and stance. We will stop several times during the session to review the images we’ve created and discuss what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong and their viability for use in representing your personal brand.
Editing on the fly like this helps us fine tune our presentation to fit your needs and vision and ensures we don’t miss anything. You'll leave knowing exactly what we've captured and will walk away with only the images that have met your approval along the way.
Retouching And Printing
Once you've chosen the shots you'd like to work with you can place an order for retouching with me.
For quality control purposes I prefer to have all our work handled by our hand-picked retouchers.
I don't release high resolution images directly to our clients unless you elect to purchase a full buyout of your entire session for $400. If you choose this option, you can still work with our retouchers if you like, but are free to take the images to a lab of your choice.
Bring seven, or ten outfits. We’ll work together to select the three, or five that are best for your photos.
It’s crucial that you only bring clothes you love. If you don’t feel comfortable in it you won’t look good while wearing it.
Bring different colors and necklines. I suggest solid colors, patterns will distract from you in the headshot.
If you’re not sure if an outfit is right just bring it with you and we can talk it over.
Don’t be too seasonal. Sweaters, tanks tops and light jackets all work great in photos. Textures and layers are great, too.
Keep jewelry earrings small and simple, anything dangling or chunky draw attention away from you. (Unless it’s part of your brand, of course.)
Have fun with your wardrobe. If there’s something missing go shopping and we’ll keep the tags on so you can return f you decide not to keep it.
I have a steamer in the studio, so we can smooth out wrinkles for you.
Hair and Makeup
Makeup for the session is recommended for all women.
Makeup for photo shoots is applied specifically for the lighting I use.
My in-house makeup Artist Caitlyn Slavich charges $80 for natural makeup for a headshot, but this depends on your personal style. If you want to start off a little heavier just say so.
If you want to keep Caitlyn on hand for glam-ups through the shoot she charges an additional $80 and also helps with styling.
We ask that everyone come in with their hair ready the way you would like to present yourself. We want your hair in your pictures to be as close as possible to the way you look on your best hair days.
Of course if you want us to do light hair: fluff, straighten, gel, curl or blow we will need to book with Terry Maher of A More Beautiful You. She charges $125 per hour.
Make sure you mention this before your shoot day, so we’re all on the same page.
It’s not advised to do makeup on most men, but Caitlyn can do some light grooming for skin and hair on the shoot for $80 if you want. All of my images are retouched, so we will remove any blemishes during post production.
Lots of guys look great with scruff or a beard. I’m happy to work with you at whatever stage of growth you like. You can shave or trim it for a clean look once we have the scruff covered
